Osteo Arthritis: is the most common form of arthritis especially among older people. In Ayurveda O.A. is termed as sandhi vaata. It is a joint disease caused by the breakdown of cartilage. the firm rubbery tissue that cushions bones at joints. In OA cartilage breaks down and wears away as a result the bone rub together, causing pain, swelling and stiffness. Symptoms level to appear when individuals are is their 50’s and 60’s.

Causes:

  • Consumption of dry or cold (or) stale food
  • Irregular sleeping habits
  • Late night activity
  • Suppression of natural urges
  • Severe cold or dry weathers
  • Degeneration of the cartilages due to ageing
  • Excessive strain
  • Any kind of injury to the joint
  • Excess Traveling
  • Stress and grief
  • Surgery and child birth
  • Excessive exercise, work or sex etc

Signs & Symptoms

  • Joint pain (often a deep aching pain) that is worsened by movement and improved with rest
  • Joint swelling,
  • Stiffness in the morning and often being inactive for a while
  • Joints that are warm to touch
  • Crunching or cracking (crepitation) noise when the joint moves
  • Limited range of motion
  • Muscle weakness
  • Abnormal growth of bony knobs near joints causing deformities.
